Tilt and turn windows open in two directions from a single handle. Turn the handle 90 degrees and the sash swings fully inward like a door, giving easy access to clean the outside glass from indoors. Turn it 180 degrees and the top of the sash tilts inward for ventilation with no risk of the window swinging open in the wind. Two Opening Modes, One Handle
The tilt and turn mechanism uses a multi-point locking system combined with a handle that gives three positions.

Closed (handle pointing down) |
The window is locked shut on multiple points around the frame. Draught-proof and secure. |

Tilt (handle pointing sideways) |
The top of the sash tilts inward by approximately 100 to 150mm. Air enters at the top and circulates down into the room. Because the opening is at the top and small, rain is kept out even during light showers. |

Turn (handle pointing up) |
The sash swings fully inward on the left-hand side hinge, opening like an inward-opening door. This gives full access to the outside face of the glass for cleaning, and allows the window to be fully opened when required. |

Where Tilt and Turn Windows Work Best

Upper-floor windows |
When a window cannot open outward because of a walkway, balcony or access restriction below, tilt and turn opens inward. There is no need to lean out or use ladders to clean the glass. Common on apartments and town houses. |

Windows above obstructions |
Kitchen windows above a worktop or sink are a classic tilt and turn application. A casement opening outward would be impractical. Tilt and turn opens inward over the worktop for both ventilation and cleaning. |

Controlled ventilation |
The tilt mode gives a fixed, stable opening that does not move in the wind. A popular choice for rooms where you want background ventilation without a window flapping or requiring a stay. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are tilt and turn windows secure?
A: Yes. Tilt and turn windows use multi-point locking hardware around the full perimeter of the frame. When closed and locked they are at least as secure as a standard casement, and in many cases more so because of the number of locking points.
Q: Can tilt and turn windows be double or triple glazed?
A: Yes. All our tilt and turn windows are supplied double glazed as standard. Triple glazing is available and worth specifying for rooms with noise issues or on very exposed aspects.
Q: Do tilt and turn windows look different from outside?
A: Not significantly. From outside, a tilt and turn window looks much like a standard casement. The difference is in the handle position and opening action on the inside.
Q: Are tilt and turn windows harder to maintain than casements?
A: No. The hardware is robust and requires no routine maintenance beyond occasional lubrication of the hinges and locking points.
